Reflection on Suzhou industrial park

The Suzhou industrial park was a collaboration between singapore and China. China wanted to use singapore as a role model for their growth, and this collaboration was used to let China learn from singapore. Thus, the signed the agreement, and Singapore started the project. However, what Singapore didn't realise is that prders from the top do not nessecarily carry out to the bottom, due to the fact that Singapore has a higher share in the park, and there was a competing park where the local government had a higher share, this caused the local government to neglect that park and focus on the local park instead. Singapore then lowered its shares, and it now turns in a profit. I think that this shows that Singapore had a lot to learn from working with other countries. Singapore is a small country which makes it easier to carry out the order, so the government is much more efficient and all orders are carried out from top to bottom. However, other countries are not like that. Thus, I think that to truly cooperate with other countries, they will need to use these methods, and make sure that the agreement is carried out.

Reflection about Suzhou industrial park

China's modernisation drive gained momentum in the late 1980s, many Chinese delegations visited Singapore as its a nation that achieved notable economic success within 30 years of independence. The Chinese visitors were eager to learn modern management methods from Singapore and Singapore was also planning Economic Regionalization which focused on overseas investment. In 1992, the idea of developing a modern industrial township with Singapore experience was broached.
Thus, after rounds of discussions, both governments decided to join hands in developing a modern industrial park in the east of Suzho, which is Suzhou Industrial Park. However, there was a scandal about Suzhou new district where the architectures are almost the same as SIP. Singapore has suffered a great loss but China did not suffer much loss. As the Suzhou city government had only a minority (35%) stake in the SIP, they had a major stake in SND, the city government largely ignored SIP and concentrated on promoting the SND instead. I think it's was quite a shock for Singapore. Since both governments have come to an agreement and yet it seems China did not fulfill it. Apparently, China is not the same as Singapore. The higher rank people might have ordered the lower rank people to do certain things but obeying or not will depend on them. Everything in China will be related to " Guan xi", relationships between each other. I think it was a good lesson for Singapore as we now know certain things is not the same as how it works in Singapore.
But now, after the scandal, the Singapore consortium lowered its stake to 35 percent, raising the Chinese consortium's stake to 65 percent from 35 percent. After making these changes, they earned their first profit in 2001. I think Singapore will be able to earn more profits from now on as we already learned our lesson from the scandal.

Reflection about Suzhou Industrial Park

From the establishment of Suzhou Industrial Park, I have learnt that in that point of time the Chinese were very unwelcome to foreign investment as shown when Singapore held the majority of the shares, the Chinese government did not push for the project to continue on but instead did a half-assed job on it. The government also copied totally the architectural blueprints of the Suzhou Industrial Park and used it to establish the Suzhou New District that was just beside the Suzhou Industrial Park. The government did not take the agreement that they have signed seriously.

In my point of view, I think that Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a charismatic leader. Since Singapore grew to a first-world metropolis in a generation's time, many countries wanted to learn from Singapore, or more specifically the Prime Minister of that time, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Mr Lee Kuan Yew was also keen to expand Singapore's range of business, hence he travelled all the way to China to meet Mr Deng Xiao Ping to talk about this matter. China was still a closed-up countries at that point in time, so it was very hard to persuade China to let a Singaporean company build their businesses in China. But Mr Lee Kuan Yew still succeeded to do it with his amazing persuasion skills. Thus, I think that Mr Lee Kuan Yew did many things for Singapore and I really respect him.

Reflection on presentation

I think that this assignment is a good experience for me. When I was preparing my presentation, I was very confident with my content. I think that I can do well this time and practiced many times in front of mirrors and family members. I have stage fright so the presentation assignment was a great deal for me. When I saw my classmates presenting so confidently, I became more and more nervous, it became more and more scary for me. So when I had my speech, I was very scared and I stammered throughout the presentation. I think it was badly done and was depressed. But after this assignment, I did better in my English presentation. I was not as scared as I was for CID presentation. I think after some experience will help me overcome my stage fright little by little. I felt relieved after my presentation.
I think all my other classmates did better than me. They were confident and did not stammer much. They do not seem scared or anything but presented leisurely. I actually hope that I can be as confident as them. But I think if I can do more presentation and speech, I might be able to overcome my stage fright. I think this type of assignment will be very useful for me.

Reflection on Assessment 1 Presentation

I think that for this assessment, I didn't exert my whole potential since I was nervous when I was up there presenting. I think that I did not choose the picture well since I had a better idea which I did not discover when I was choosing my picture. While preparing for the speech, I was too focused on describing the picture instead of inferring the messages that the artist was trying to convey to the audience. I think that I should have thought more throughly about the picture I should choose since it will affect the delivery and grade of the presentation,

Well for the class, I think that most of them are very nervous and cut short on the content of their presentation since this was the first presentation we had this week. But some of them are confident in their delivery hence, I think I that I should learn from them, preparing well and speaking with confidence.

Reflections

Process on preparing speech
Preparing the speech was quite a difficult thing to do since I had nothing much to talk about chili crab. However, i started to think out of the box and think what is really the exact reason I chose the chili crab to represent singapore. This is when I realised it's because chili crab is so significant to singapore that I had to choose that picture.
Presentation
I think I stuttered quite a lot because I kept forgetting my points. I also kept looking at my script since I was not confident enough. I think I should have prepared more so I can stop relying on my script
How you think class did
Overall the class did well. However, I think that we should try to refrain from relying on scripts since it made us look unconfident.

Reflection on Assignment 1 presentation. Han Wei 26

Process: In researching and writing my script, I found more and more about Singapore, it's history, food, multicultural practices and contributions Mr Lee Kuan Yew did for Singapore.

Presentation: I was the first group to present and I was actually quite nervous before the presentation. However, when I was presenting, it became more natural to describe my home, Singapore.

Overall for class: I think the class did alright. Many people was nervous but pulled through with a smile in the end of the presentation.

Reflection on CID presentation

I think that in this presentation, we all didn't make use of the time well. We were afraid of going over the time limit and being deducted marks so we shortened our speeches to make sure we stayed within the time limit. However, when I presented, I was nervous and forget things, so my speech became even shorter. So, I think that we should not worry so much about the timing, as when there is 30 seconds left, we can end of our point and conclude, and not go over the time. I think I should have done that instead of trying to plan out everything, as this way, it will be more flexible, and made use of our time better.

Comment on group threes presentation

I think that the presentation was good as it was funny and engaged the audience. Yizhuo was able to use humor to attract the audience and his voice was loud and clear. Furthermore, he held in his laughter when telling the jokes. So, I think that he didi well as he was able to articulate clearly and engage the audience
